Anthony Ojonimi Onoja, is a Full Professor of Resource and Environmental Economics at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria and a Professor Extraordinarius at the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, University of South Africa. He is also the Director, Institute of Agricultural Research and Development (IARD), University of Port Harcourt since 2021 to 2026. He serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Natural Resource Environment and Sustainable Development (INRES) and an Associate Research Fellow, Resource and Environmental Policy Research Centre (REPRC), University of Nigeria Nsukka funded by Environment for Development (EfD: https://efdinitiative.org/nigeria). He obtained a PhD in Resource and Environmental Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2015. He is currently the President, Agricultural Policy Research Network (APRNet: http://www.aprnetworkng.org) since 2015. He was a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of South Africa, Johannesburg from May-August 2018. He is an Executive Council Member to the African Association of Resource and Environmental Economists (AFAERE) (2024-2026) and was an Executive Board Member of the African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE) 2018-2023. Prof. Onoja, has high experience in facilitating stakeholders' meetings, conferences, workshops and seminars for policy making. He has been involved in field research (both qualitative and quantitative) including (fisheries and aquaculture economics) for over 23 years. A well travelled researcher, Prof. Onoja has over 100 publications to his credit. His expertise ranges from conflicts on natural resources, sustainable agricultural livelihoods including sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, gender inclusion, Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), vulnerability and impact assessments; agricultural policy and public policy analysis, trade/macroeconomic policy, applied econometrics to agribusiness finance/project evaluation. He serves on the editorial boards of five reputable journals. Prof. Onoja is the Team Lead of the experts constituted by the Nigerian government to draft and launch the first ever Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy for Nigeria (2025 to 2029), in collaboration with IFPRI and WorldFish. He had won scholarships, fellowships and research grants from various bodies (national and international) e.g. from International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), TETFund (Nigeria), Global Development Network(GDN)/USAID, USAID/Michigan State University, IITA, International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), Association of African Universities (AAU), SIDA & AGRIFOSE2030/University of Gothenburg. He is also on the research team that won a grant from TETFUND to conduct a survey on Impact assessment and demographic history of the invasiveGiant Tiger Prawn, Panaeusmonodon, along the Nigerian Coast He currently serves as University of Port Harcourt focal person in the consortium EU-Scholarship and Intra-Africa mobility Project called CREATE GreenAfrica Project. A consultant to World Bank/Fadama programme and GTZ, he is also a recipient of an international mobility scholarship funded by the European Union in the Intra-ACP Academic Mobility Scheme, TRECCAFRICA. He was a Mentor in the AWARDS First Cohort Mentoring programme (2023). He had twice won awards for outstanding contribution to research and development at University of Port Harcourt. In 2017 he was named City Law Review (CTLR) Researcher of the Year by an Abuja based Magazine with bias for public policy and law. He is a recipient of the award for Inspirational Leadership in recognition of professional leadership and motivation by Prof. Walter Ollor Foundation in Port Harcourt. He is a member of International Association of Agricultural Economists, IAAE, African Association of Agricultural Economists, AAAE, Associate Member, Fishery Society of Nigeria (FISON), Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists, NAAE and Agricultural Policy Research Network (APRNet); Agriculture, Nutrition & Health (ANH) Academy and African Association of Resource and Environmental Economists (AFAERE). He is conversant with the use of econometric and statistical software such as EViews, Frontier 4.1C, STATA, SPSS, MS Excel, Limpdep, R, Genstat, etc. and others GIS software such as Q GIS and DSSAT fairly. In 2023, Prof. Anthony Onoja was inducted as a Fellow, Institute of Educational Leadership Practitioners of Nigeria (IELPN).
