Our Brief History

Agricultural Policy research Network (NAPRNet) was being facilitated by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) which seeks sustainable solutions for ending hunger and poverty. IFPRI is one of 15 centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, an alliance of 64 governments, private foundations, and international and regional organizations. The foregoing tasks are pursued by NAPRNet across the following agricultural and rural development policy issues: · Institutions and services – public and private finance for agriculture, farm services, agribusiness, market development, research and extension · Productivity, growth and sustainability – input use, technological accumulation, growth drivers, climate change, environmental health, linkage to other sectors (e.g. manufacturing industry) · Infrastructure production and consumption – farm development, irrigation, storage and processing, transportation and power · Public-private partnerships – optimal mix of public and private sector roles and responsibilities, intergovernmental fiscal and policy relations, Other policy relevant research issues as may be determined by the executive council.

Our Objectives

Our objectives include:
To promote the exchange of existing research information (methods, data, publications)
To mobilize a pool of financial resources for independent policy research
To encourage mentoring of upcoming policy researchers
To provide peer review for researchers
To create channels for linking research with policy process
To encourage the use of research results in the policy process

The network also engages in the following activities:
Web-based information sharing/discussion forum
Research meetings, seminars and workshops
Stakeholder dialogue sessions
Round table and policy conferences
Training and capacity building sessions
Executive council meetings
General meetings
Production of information materials(proceedings, policy briefs, newsletter and journal)
Any other activities as may be deemed relevant by the network
